WHAT TYPE OF GROW LIGHT SHOULD I USE?
1. Full Spectrum Compact Fluorescents
are ideal for starting seeds or cuttings or as spot lights for a single low light plant, such as orchids and other
houseplants. They are the most energy efficient grow lights available.
2. T5 High Output Full Spectrum Lights have extremely
high lumen per watt rating and high PAR value. This type of light is ideal for shorter plants, such as orchids, cacti and
herbs. The T5 technology also provides a superior light during the vegetative phase of the plant.
Although more efficient than incandescent lights, fluorescents are still much less efficient than High Intensity
Discharge (HID) light systems. Larger wattage systems will cover larger areas, and since these bulbs produce greater
light intensity they are superior for growing taller plants.
3. Metal Halide (MH) and High Pressure Sodium
(HPS) are the most common HID grow lights. MH bulbs emit a blue-white spectrum, which is more conductive for
vegetative growth or starting seeds and clones. HPS bulbs are red-orange in the spectrum, which is ideal for the fruiting
and flowering stage of a plant's development.
